Torrenting at Baywater
Main Post:
I'm living at Baywater this year, and I've recently run into trouble torrenting some TV shows from the pirate bay. It worked earlier in the semester, but I can't connect to any peers at all, let alone download anything. I was wondering if anyone else has had a similar problem here or elsewhere, and if they knew how to fix it. Thanks!

The ISP is obviously taking measures to block torrenting traffic. You are not going to have any luck talking to the owner, as they more than likely contract out the network management (especially if they are doing advanced configuration like this). They are not going to unblock it for you, and they are going to see through any lies you try and tell. Unblocking it is only more work for them and increases their liability, and telling you no is very unlikely to lose them any business.
There are a few things you can do in your torrent client settings that may help.
- Force encryption on all connections
- Change the port you use (not likely to help)
- Use a VPN
A VPN essentially encrypts some or all of your network traffic and sends it to a remote server, which then connects it to the internet. All your ISP will see is encrypted traffic to one server, and all the world will see is all of your traffic being sent to a different IP address (usually in foreign countries that don't care about the DCMA). You can buy access to one for a few bucks a month. Your ISP probably will not block VPN access, as there are a lot more legitimate uses for them (usually connecting to an office network for work). If it is blocked, they may be more willing to unblock it (although probably not if they look at the logs and see you transferring hundreds of GB from Romania).
The J.Crew Baywater peacoat no longer exists, thought on the Dock Peacoat?

If nothing else, this provides a relatively rare color of peacoat (olive) at a relatively bargain-bin price, so good on JCrew for that.

If you do, are you aware of the LTB virtual meeting involving your landlord Osgoode Properties and over 200 current tenants?
It's set for this Thursday, June 6 @ 9 am. You must log or dial in by 830 if you want to attend.
Why is there a hearing?
In short, your landlord has made extra repairs to the building and wants to raise your rent an additional 3.23% OVER the 2.55% they just raised it this month, to help pay for these repairs.
Further, in the application, they asked for the increase to take effect JUNE 1, 2021. That's three years ago.
What does this mean?
If Osgoode gets the Tribunal to agree, every tenant named in the application (156 of 162 units) would owe 3.23% of their rental rate BACK to June 2021 (ie 36 months worth) to Osgoode. So if your current rent is $1000 per month, you'd owe 32.30 per month (x36) or $1162.80 ON TOP OF YOUR REGULAR RENT. Plus, your future rent would be raised by an extra 3.23% permanently.
What happens if the tenant can't afford or pay this?
If this increase is approved through the LTB, you HAVE to pay the amount ordered or you can be EVICTED.
What can I do?
First off, seek legal advice NOW before the meeting on Thursday. Copies of the video hearing notice can be viewed at the management office at 52 Bayswater if you've misplaced yours. I highly encourage you to Call a local paralegal for advice, attend the Legal Clinic, whatever you can do within your means to further understand the implications of this meeting (and not attending).
Second, it's imperative you attend the meeting on June 6 or get someone to attend on your behalf. To ignore the meeting means that Osgoode may get everything they are asking for. Don't let this happen.
How do I attend?
Online, go to: https://bit.ly/ZLTBVideo157
Dial in: 855-703-8985. You will require a meeting ID which is 996-6110-9647#

IT SHOULD NOT BE THE TENANT'S RESPONSIBILITY TO SUBSIDIZE CORPORATE LANDLORD'S NECESSARY REPAIRS!!! The point of renting is to NOT have huge unexpected housing costs arise, and most tenants in those buildings cannot afford a lump sum payout.
Please spread the word!! The more tenants that oppose at the meeting, the less chance Osgoode will get this increase through!

I've heard nothing but horror coming from these two buildings. Slum lords driving up the price and giving as little possible back to the building. I hope you get everything you're asking for because fuck osgoode.

Satisfied with the quality of your drinking water in the Bay Area ?
Main Post:
Heard some people complaining about the drinking water in the Bay Area. A lot of transplants have mentioned how our water is different then other parts of the county. I’ve also heard other say that ours is just regular normal water, and I’d have to agree.
